The Vineyard

The vineyards at Cooper Ridge are separated into 3 blocks; Dynamite Ridge, Riverview and Fox Hollow; covering 12 acres of the estate property.

Dynamite Ridge is a hillside location 150 ft above the main property. The soils are primarily sandstone, a perfect location for Pinot Noir. Selected rootstock has been grafted onto 4 clones; Pommard, Wadenswil, 115 and 72. Row spacing of 7’ with 5’ plant spacing.

Riverview is a large field of river-bottom black soils. 101-14 rootstock was used for all culitvars. Tempranillo, Viognier, Merlot and Syrah/Shiraz varietals were planted spring of 2009 in 7’ x 6 plantings.

Fox Hollow is a 3 acre block with differing soils. River-bottom and sandy soils comprise the majority of this block that is planted with Gruner Veltliner, Riesling, and Syrah. Planting of the grafted rootstock were completed in fall of 2009 in 7’x 6’ spacing.

The Umpqua AVA in Southern Oregon has a climate that includes maritime influences with the perfect amount of moisture and heat units to grow a wide variety of grapes. The warm days and cool evenings provide the perfect environment for grape growing.

The rootstock and clones were chosen specifically for the terrior and purchased from a certified nursery. The quality installation of trellis systems, canopy management along with the “white glove” approach given to the vineyard has resulted in top quality fruit production and its rewards.
